This is a great idea. I tried to get something started on Hexagon.cc when it first started. I may revive it and link back here.

Subcircles and a mind map like display would be a nice addition to G+.
Oh hey, if you like I can put together a mind map of the people from the google doc. Would it be possible to embed it into a G+ page? I haven’t messed with G+ pages at all yet.
